FULFILLED WISHES

Mary Lou – Nominated by nurse (Rocklin, CA)

Mary Lou’s wish for a mobility scooter came true! She has had a rough year with chronic pain, falls, being in and out of rehab, and insurance issues. Her nurse nominated her for a wish to encourage her not to give up. Mary Lou was so appreciative and said, “Now I will be able to go meet other residents in the apartment complex.” Special thank you to Ray Stone Senior Living for sponsoring this wish.

Thelma – Nominated herself (Rocklin, CA)

Thelma has limited mobility and risks falling when using a small plastic stepstool to get in and out of her bed that sits in an old waterbed frame. Between help from our donors and help from our friends at RC Willey, Silver Wishes was able to grant TJ her wish for a bedroom makeover with a new low adjustable platform, mattress, dresser, nightstand and mirror. Getting in and out of bed shouldn’t have to be a health hazard.

Margie – Nominated herself (Rocklin, CA)

Margie’s wish was simple, yet she couldn’t make it happen on her own. She wished that a handyman would complete a few small projects around her apartment that she’s needed help with for years. Just to make sure Margie felt extra special with her one-time wish, we added a couple of bonus treats to enjoy along with the completed handyman projects.

Valerie – Nominated by apartment manager (Lincoln, CA)

Sometimes it’s the small things that help you face the big things in life. Valerie is always taking care of others which doesn’t leave much left to take care of her needs. With help from one of the employees at the Lincoln Firestone and the owner of Fibrenew Rocklin, we were able to grant Valerie’s wish for an oil change and fix the driver’s seat in her car. This wish was another great example of the community coming together to make a difference.

Philip – Nominated by son (Roseville, CA)

Philip recently downsized and moved into an apartment but due to his cancer treatments he’s too weak and sick to unpack, organize and get settled. Thank you New Leaf Senior Transitions for making this wish come true! All the boxes were weighing on him mentally and you have lifted a burden. You have worked your magic making Philip’s new place feel more like home and a place of rest. Thank you!

Suzie – Nominated by apartment manager (Rocklin, CA)

You made another wish come true! Suzie is a paraplegic and getting around in her wheelchair was becoming more and more difficult. Thank you Bischoff’s Medical Supplies for your superb customer service and assistance.

Bonus – the tears of joy and smiles are contagious.

Silver Wishes and Brush of Creativity Art Party Events with Deidre Trudeau was able to reveal to Donna Lee that she is going to have a private painting lesson so she can learn a new hobby. Silver Wishes surprised her with painting supplies and drawing supplies to keep her busy but most of all to let her know she is known and valued.

Richard’s wheelchair was broken and too small, but he was thrilled to receive a larger one that will be more comfortable and sturdier for him.

Cathy – Nominated herself (Rocklin, CA)

After 7 spine fusions, 3 hip surgeries and 5 knee surgeries, getting around has become more difficult for Cathy. Your donations helped us grant Cathy’s wish for a new mobility scooter. We added an additional basket to the back of the scooter as she can’t wait to ride her new set of wheels to and from the market. Thank you for making another wish come true!

Jill – Nominated by friend (Roseville, CA)

When life throws you a curve ball, life can become extremely overwhelming. Virgil was everything to Jill for the last 44 years and very unexpectedly passed away due to a blood clot that went from his heart to his brain. Without any family or resources, Jill felt like she was letting her husband down not knowing how to afford to put him to rest. This wasn’t a joy-filled wish, but this wish for a casket, transportation for her husband and burial prep, helped Jill overcome a conflict she was facing and give her a sense of peace. Our deepest condolences Jill for your loss.

Andrew – Nominated by case manager (Auburn, CA)

Andrew is undergoing stage 4 liver cancer treatment. After becoming very ill and having an extended stay in the hospital he became homeless but now able to stay in a respite care home.  He has always been one to look out for others, but this time we wanted to look out for Andrew and lift his spirits by granting his wish for art supplies. Now he can spend time between treatments relaxing with his favorite hobby. Enjoy being creative with your new sketchbooks and art supplies.

Thomas – Nominated by friend (Rocklin, CA)

This may look like a really comfy chair to most of us. However, for Thomas this chair looks like an opportunity to keep his feet elevated which is a necessity because of his medical condition, an opportunity to get up on his own and a comfortable place for him to sleep. This piece of furniture brings a smile, comfort, a new outlook and a sense of feeling known and valued. Enjoy your new chair Thomas!

Judy & Phillip – Nominated by community member (Auburn, CA)

Judy and Phillip were nominated for a wish because they don’t have reliable transportation and couldn’t afford the repairs on their cars. When Silver Wishes arrived to reveal their wish for repairing their truck with a new radiator, the first response was, “Nothing is for free.” We are glad they are cautious of scams, but Silver Wishes is thrilled to help them repair their truck to have reliable transportation again. This wish was emotional as it lifted a huge burden, and they requested no pictures.

Donna – Nominated by community member (Roseville, CA)

It is always great to see the community work together to help someone that is facing tough times, especially when it means the opportunity to help someone save their home. Silver Wishes was honored to partner with D2XInc. to make a wish come true for Donna. In order to make her home sustainable, she needs a new roof, dry rot repaired and exterior painting. Silver Wishes revealed to Donna that the exterior painting of her home, built in 1916, will be taken care of by our organization. A wish that will impact Donna today, tomorrow and going forward.

Renaye – Nominated by wellness nurse (Rocklin, CA)

Sometimes life can weigh you down, but it’s just the little things in life that can lift one’s spirits and let someone know they are known and valued. When finances are tight, you have to pick and choose what is a necessity. Now Renaye will stay cool with her new tower fan and steaming clothes has gotten a lot easier with a new working steamer.

Delores – Nominated by caregiver (Roseville, CA)

Delores beamed with joy as she said, “Today feels like Christmas!” After a terrible accident, Delores has been living in chronic pain and getting out of her chair has become increasingly difficult. Our friends at RC Willey, have a great selection and provided a memorable shopping experience as Delores was like Goldilocks getting to choose a power lift recliner that fit her “just right” and will provide her comfort and the ability to get up on her own again.

Ray – Nominated by friend (Roseville, CA)

It is always great when we can give back to our veterans and we were thrilled to grant Ray his wish for a mobility scooter. While Ray was test driving his scooter, his wife said, “This is going to allow us to go places together again and spend more quality time together.” That’s our hope, and as a community we are impacting the lives of seniors one wish at a time. Thank you Banner Bank for nominating Ray and thank you Bischoff’s Medical Supplies for providing amazing customer service.

Roy – Nominated by friend (Alta, CA)

Roy has been working on his bucket list as he is fighting terminal cancer. As a diehard Raiders fan for the last 50 years, he’s wanted to see the team play in Las Vegas. His wife got him tickets to next week’s game but needed help with lodging, transportation and food expenses. Silver Wishes revealed to him that all the trip details have been taken care of and we hope this bucket list trip will provide wonderful memories as he undergoes weekly chemo for the next 10 months.

Dean – Nominated by nurse (Rocklin, CA)

Dean’s favorite thing to do was to go around the block using his mobility scooter. Having the scooter created a special bonding time with his granddaughter when she would come visit. They enjoyed taking the scooter to Dutch Bros for a treat. But lately he’s been cooped up because his scooter batteries couldn’t hold a charge anymore. Dean’s wish for two new batteries for his scooter will give him more mobility again and the opportunity to continue his scooter outings with his granddaughter again.

Dianna – Nominated by neighbor (Rocklin, CA)

Dianna has been too embarrassed to have people in her apartment because of the condition of her couch until today. Thank you to our amazing salesperson, Bryan at RC Willey, who helped on his day off to remove and discard her old couch to make room for her new beautiful couch. Another example of how a wish can help overcome loneliness when you have a place to sit together.

Geneva – Nominated by Care Coordinator (Roseville, CA)

Geneva’s 96th birthday didn’t go as planned, as she had a major stroke on her special day. Her husband is now caring, cleaning and cooking for her but the one thing that would make life easier is an electric hospital bed. When life can get overwhelming, Silver Wishes is happy to provide the basic necessities to help lift a burden and give them one less thing to worry about.

Thomas – Nominated by Case Manager (Auburn, CA)

Music can be healing and therapeutic which is why Thomas was nominated for a wish for a new guitar by his case manager at The Gathering Inn. Thomas used to love playing music and when he had access to an instrument it significantly improved his ability to cope with his circumstances. It gives him a reason to get out of bed and keep trying. Thank you, Rockstar Music Academy for making this wish come true and giving Thomas a new outlook on life.

Darlene – Nominated by friend (Rocklin, CA)

Darlene really wanted groceries but if she could wish for anything else it would be to look out her window in a swivel rocking chair. Thanks to Fleur de Lis Farm, her wish was completed with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

Pat was extremely grateful that she won’t have to sleep diagonal on her bed anymore and said, “My back is going to be so happy tomorrow.”

James – Nominated by daughter (Lincoln, CA)

James has always had a heart to serve others first. Years ago, he was a first responder and then supported students with disabilities. He still works full time to support his family while being a surrogate dad to his grandson. To honor and show appreciation to her dad, his daughter wanted him to have a chance to fulfill one of his own bucket list dreams. James is now one step closer to following in his dad’s footsteps and becoming a helicopter pilot. His wish to attend helicopter ground school was granted today.

Leonard – Nominated by niece (Roseville, CA)

Silver Wishes had been planning Leonard’s wish for the last two months. During this time Leonard ended up in the ICU and the first thing he said when he was discharged was, “Is the party still on?” Leonard’s wish was to have his family together again to sing and pray together as he lives in a care facility and most of the family lives out of the area. SantiniRose Music knocked it out of the park and played all of Leonard’s favorite songs as he sang along. It was a magical day bringing loved ones together to celebrate Leonard for his 75th birthday.

Pete – Nominated by daughter (Lincoln, CA)

Pete has always taken care of everyone else in the community. He has coached baseball for 52 years, built a personal baseball diamond on his property so kids would have a place to hang out instead of getting in trouble, and puts on the annual Lincoln Christmas light walk thru display on Wise Road with an annual Christmas gift donation drive for families that are struggling. Now the roles were reversed, and Silver Wishes was able to gather 100 of his friends, family and former baseball players to show their appreciation to Pete with a BBQ dinner while attending the Lincoln Potters baseball game together. Even as a former Lincoln Potters coach, tonight was Pete’s first time throwing the first pitch at a Potter’s game. Thank you, Pete, for all you do for your community.

Diana – Nominated by friend (Lincoln, CA)

It’s been 7 years since Diana has been able to get to the end of her street on her own. Between polio at the age of 4, post-polio syndrome, 7 hip surgeries and 3 spinal surgeries it has been very difficult for Diana to get around. Diana has a heart for service and stays busy with her nonprofit, 1000 Hats Project, crocheting hats and blankets for the homeless, low-income kids and seniors. Silver Wishes felt like the best way to grant her wish for a mobility scooter was with 32 rolls of yarn so the 1000 Hats Project can keep on giving.

Chester & Miriam – Nominated by friend (Lincoln, CA)

This is a perfect example of a community making a difference. Chester has been housebound due to mobility issues and pain for the last 8 months. She ended up in the ICU with 8 broken ribs followed by weeks in rehab and celebrating her 89th birthday alone. This week Dolores is turning 90 years old and was nominated for a wish to be celebrated with her favorite things. Her wish was granted with private Pilates sessions by Studio One Pilates, a gift card to buy more books (she used to read a book a day), a private book club with a Silver Wishes volunteer and 4 weeks of meal prep with help from Always Best Care Senior Services of Greater Sacramento Area. Happy 90th Birthday Dolores!

Rosemary – Nominated by her bank (Rocklin, CA)

Sometimes it’s the everyday things that we take for granted, that others would be excited to receive. Rosemary is turning 90 years old soon and she was overjoyed to receive her wish for a working microwave and new vacuum cleaner. After learning about her passion for sewing, we surprised her with a new sewing box and a case full of spools of thread. Be on the lookout this fall for her and her handmade aprons at the local craft fairs!

Wayne – Nominated by daughter (Roseville, CA)

Wayne had a stroke many years ago and adjusted to life with hemiparesis until he recently fractured his back making life a little more difficult. We hope that getting to doctor appointments will be a little bit easier with a new lightweight transport chair and a wheelchair ramp.  Since going to doctor appointments isn’t always enjoyable, Silver Wishes included some gift cards to go out to dinner at his favorite restaurants now that getting around should be a little easier.

Garland – Nominated by a Care Coordinator (Roseville, CA)

Garland has been through the wringer during the last six months with two heart attacks, a pacemaker, two strokes and a cancer diagnosis. After 25 days in rehab, his family couldn’t wait to bring him back home.  Silver Wishes was able to grant the family’s wish to help Garland rest comfortably in his own home again with a new hospital bed, a bedside tray table, and a video monitor. And we couldn’t give Garland a new bed, without new sheets! There’s definitely no place like home!

Everything needed to be remodeled from the roof, appliances, floors, heating and air, etc. Silver Wishes was able to grant a wish to furnish her entire living room & dining room with help from FirstLight Home Care of South Placer County, RC Willey and our donors. It is so amazing to see how together we can make a difference!

Phyllis – Nominated by neighbor (Granite Bay, CA)

This was more of a surprise than a wish…
Phyllis was nominated for a wish as her home needs several repairs and she’s been very sick. But when we reached out to Phyllis, she didn’t think she was worthy of anything. Silver Wishes definitely believes Phyllis is worthy and surprised her with a care package filled with items to help make life a little easier and to give her a boost of joy. Mission accomplished!

Karen – Nominated by friend (Granite Bay, CA)

As a hospice nurse, Karen is one that has a huge heart to take care of others. Enjoy your new space to relax Karen!

Kenneth – Nominated by caregiver (Colfax, CA)

Unfortunately, cancer, a major car accident, a terrible fall from a ladder, and a broken neck has prevented him from being able to do a lot of his favorite activities or even tinker in the yard and garage. His wish was to have a two-year-old pile of trash removed from his backyard as it was weighing on him that he wasn’t able to remove it. Now it’s gone and he is grateful to have one less thing to worry about.

Cheryl – Nominated herself (Lincoln, CA)

Ron – Nominated by case manager (Roseville, CA)

Ron is a talented artist and former architect that fell on hard times several years ago. While homeless, his wheelchair was stolen, and insurance only covers one wheelchair a lifetime. This wish for a brand-new wheelchair will help Ron get around easier and gives him a new outlook on life.

Donna – Nominated by friend (Lincoln, CA)

Donna has been fighting psoriatic arthritis for many years yet encourages every single person she meets. She cannot drive or do most tasks because her hands are severely affected by the disease. Ron – Nominated by stepson (Roseville, CA)

Ron has been twice widowed and his close “girlfriend” passed away in 2021. His primary companion is his Shitzu dog (Shawnee) who is 18 years old and has gone blind. Shawnee gives Ron purpose as he cares for her, but he is struggling with the upkeep of his home and knows he needs to move to a senior living facility in the near future. However, he does not want to displace Shawnee and wants her live her remaining life in “their” home. His wish for carpet cleaning and window cleaning will kick off the new year with a fresh & brighter outlook.

Margie – Nominated by care giver (Roseville, CA)

Margie is one that cannot relax until her place is clean and tidy. Between her vacuum breaking and her chronic pain, cleaning was becoming more of a chore. Patti – Nominated by daughter (Lincoln, CA )

Patti hasn’t put up a tree since 2015 when her husband passed away. There is a new sense of Christmas cheer in Patti’s home this year.

Dennis – Nominated by care giver (Roseville, CA)

Not to mention, this chair is much more comfortable than the walker he’s been using as a chair for the past couple of weeks.

Linda was showered with love and pampered with a haircut & color, thanks to Jennifer Schumacher. As well as flowers, tea and scones thanks to Jones Sconery.

Richard – Nominated himself (Roseville, CA)

One of Richard’s favorite things to do is watching sports on TV. Unfortunately, with the rising cost of living, he’s been without cable for a while. The rabbit ear antennae only brought in one channel at best and it wasn’t a channel that broadcast baseball and football games. With a wish granted for a year of cable TV that includes sports channels, Richard will have something to look forward to each week and can enjoy cheering on the 49ers and Kings from home again.

Janet – Nominated herself (Roseville, CA)

Gwen found a note taped to her front door that said, “Call Silver Wishes, maybe they can help.”  Silver Wishes is grateful for the opportunity to partner with Dr. Slate of Pure Dentistry in Rocklin to grant Gwen her wish for lower partial dentures.  Not only does Gwen look great, but she feels great! She left the office saying she cannot wait to chew without pain again and enjoy a steak dinner.

Darlene & Gilbert – Nominated by daughter (Lincoln, CA)

Gilbert had a stroke recently which makes it hard for him to get around and do everyday activities. And Darlene recently fell off of a step stool, causing mini fractures in her back. So, their daughter nominated them for a wish for a custom screen door with a built in doggie door so they wouldn’t have to get up and down so often to let out their grand-dog “Maddie.”  They are thrilled that now they can bring in the fresh air while leaving the flies outside. Something as simple as a doggie door installed within a screen door can make a world of difference.

Rosa – Nominated herself (Lincoln, CA)

Rosa hasn’t had her lower teeth for almost two years. During COVID it wasn’t so bad because she could hide her smile behind her mask, however it still hurt to eat. Now that masks are gone, Rosa’s wish was to get her smile back with a new set of lower dentures. Within seconds of seeing herself in the mirror, Rosa’s self-confidence skyrocketed. Thanks to Dr. Slate and Pure Dentistry, life has a brighter outlook for Rosa as she can smile without feeling self-conscious and enjoy eating pain free again.

Now Velda can enjoy the fresh air and continue reading books in her favorite place, the back deck.

Kathy – Nominated by friend (Colfax, CA)

Since funds are tight for Velda, Kathy is the kind of person that always puts others first & volunteers most of her time caring for Velda which doesn’t leave much to pay everyday expenses and bills. Her wish was for a new cell phone as hers was very old and wouldn’t hold a charge anymore. Silver Wishes was able to help her overcome this obstacle by granting her a new iPhone as well as 6 months cell phone service.

Rick – Nominated by wife (Auburn, CA)

Rick has beat cancer three times in the last 6 years and now they have found a new lump. Rick’s wife was afraid her husband may give up and stop fighting, so she nominated him for a wish to give him a burst of joy & hope. Rick’s wish reveal was a sweet success as this was a total surprise to him yesterday. The smile on Rick’s face when he read that he was going to Southern California to see his grandson for his birthday was priceless.

Isabelle – Nominated by neighbor (Lincoln, CA) Isabelle has had a rough two years. She watched her husband battle ALS and then two months after he passed away, she was diagnosed with aggressive stage 3 cancer. After 5 surgeries, months of chemo and radiation, she is in now in remission. Her wish was to thank her daughters for taking care of her with a nice dinner at La Provence. A wish that is giving back and celebrating a new year of better health is a great start to 2022.

Christmas Tree Wishes                                            Thanks to a grant from the Lincoln Community Foundation, Silver Wishes was able to make the holidays merry and bright for 11 seniors. Tree requests came in letting us know money was tight, a spouse passed away, or surgery was looming preventing the presence of a tree. We were able to lift those spirits and bring a little hope into their homes this Christmas season.

Barbara – Nominated by daughter (Lincoln, Ca) Barbara’s family kept their wish nomination for their mom a secret. They wanted to lift her spirits as the last couple of years have been filled with heartache and major health issues. Yesterday, we revealed her wish from under a silver dome a minute before her new power lift recliner’s delivery truck pulled into the driveway. To say Barbara was surprised and blown away is an understatement. Now she won’t be depending on anyone to help her get in and out of her chair and will be able to rest comfortably. We couldn’t leave without giving her slippers and blanket to match!

Doris – Nominated by daughter (Lincoln, Ca) Doris recently had a malignant lung tumor removed and has undergone chemotherapy. She is now house bound due to COVID and has limited lung capacity. Her first wish would be to play tennis again but that isn’t a reality right now. However, her other wish was for a bouquet of her all time favorite flowers, yellow roses. So we made that happen as well as a year’s subscription to tennis magazine so she can follow her favorite sport.
